If you are on social assistance do you get an income tax refund or gst rebate?

I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and have been on social assistance (welfare) since October of 2010. Prior to that I had no income, I was supported by my then common law spouse. I am wondering if a person is on assistance do you recieve an income tax refund or a gst rebate? I board at my parents home and have no dependents. Serious answers only please.
